Day 2 of the FLW Walleye Tour at Bay de Noc started out with calm conditions under clear and sunny skies. Winds today are predicted to stay calm this morning, changing over to South at a very mild 5-10mph this afternoon. It will be a good day to be on the water, but will it improve the bite? We'll see!
The "Butter Boy", Eric Olson, who runs the "Land-O-Lakes" wrapped Ranger had some thoughts on this tournament, and how it's going to effect a lot of the anglers. Here's what he had to say this morning:
Juls: Eric, you had a pretty good day yesterday with 3 fish for 14 plus pounds... do you think you can go out and do that again today?
Eric: LOL...yeah...believe it or not, my total for the whole prefish last week, was three fish!
It surprised me that I got three, but I lost two, so I should have actually had 5 yesterday.
Let's go in and get another three, and a bonus of another two for a limit today and I'll be sitting....as the saying goes, "I'll be sitting pretty".
The funny thing about this is, 52 boats zeroed yesterday, and a lot of those guys were in the top 50 for the championship with a few in the running for the AOY race too. There's a lot of sweating going on today, and right now, from what I see, there's going to be a lot of flip-flopping for the championship. I think what's going to happen, as far as this tournament goes is, it's going to surprise a lot of people.
This is really going to probably be one of the most unique tournaments, I think. The way it can directly effect the outcome of the championship is putting a lot of pressure on a lot of the guys fishing here this week.
Decision making is going to be the real key, because you're going after one or two bites.
For instance, Pete Harsh yesterday, he had two bites. Two fish that didn't come unbuttoned. One at 9 in the morning and one at two in the afternoon for 16 pounds...that's it!
So, it just gives you an idea of how tough this bite really is. A lot of guys are battling for that. I'm just fortunate that I'm in a spot where I'm not banking on one or two bites anymore...I'm banking on some fish, and with 14 pounds, I put myself in the championship yesterday.
The loads been lifted from me, and now I can just go fish, relaxed. I can just sit on a spot and work it and work it and wait for the fish to come to me, so things are looking good.
We'll find out this afternoon as the weigh in continues at 3PM ET here on Walleye Central, so join us as we watch who flips and who flops!
