The next stop for the National Guard FLW Walleye tour is scheduled for May 10-12. The warm winter and spring has caused an early spawn for the Lake Erie walleye but big weights are still expected. It should take 30-35 pounds per day for the top anglers to reach saturday's final. It is expected that for all three days, the top weight will be close to 100 pounds. Last year's winning weight of more than 117 pounds might not be equaled but due to the large numbers of big fish, this is one of the favorite stops on the FLW tour. While normally this time of year, water temperature is key to finding the fish, The warmer than normal water has the fish spread out. Reports say that the water temp is already over 50 degrees. One key will be finding the right clarity of water. The fishermen will be pulling spinner rigs and stickbaits. Though there are storms and heavy rain predicted for early in the week, the current weekend forecast looks promising. Anglers will take off from the Nor’Easter Club located in Port Clinton at 6:30 each morning. Thursday’s and Friday’s weigh-ins will be held at Waterworks Park in Port Clinton beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday’s final weigh-in will be held at the Walmart located at 2826 East Harbor Road in Port Clinton beginning at 4 p.m. The top pro will receive winnings up to $63,000 and the top co-angler up to $10,500 |
