Lake Mille Lacs is playing host to more than 500 of the world's best walleye anglers. The NTC and MWC tournaments will be run at the same time, at the same body of water. Tournament dates are May 31-June 2. The Cabela’s NTC is one of the most prestigious walleye tournaments in the country. Teams qualify by accumulating points through competition in local tournaments organized by walleye clubs across the United States. Now in its 28th season, the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit is the longest-running professional walleye tournament circuit in the United States. The MWC portion of the tournament will take place thursday and friday. The NTC teams will also fish tursday and friday but only the top 25 team,s after day two, will fish on saturday. Weigh ins are set for Izaty’s Resort Days One and Two, and McQuoid’s Inn the final day. Talking with some teams, fishing has been good when they have been able to get out. High winds, lightning and rain have hampered them almost daily. When the weather has cooperated, so have the fish. Unfortunately, many fish within the slot limit (17"-28") are being caught and are not able to be kept. These will be catch and release tournaments with penalties being given for dead/unreleaseable fish brought to the scales. The weather forecast looks promising for the weekend. Right now they are calling for stable conditions with partly sunny skies and light winds. The public is invited to the weigh-ins, which begin at 3 p.m. daily at Izaty’s May 31 and June 1. Saturday's weigh in will begin at 3:30 p.m. at McQuoid’s Inn off Highway 47, just north of Isle. The Cabela’s MWC, National Professional Anglers Association, Pure Fishing and Zippo Outdoor Brands will present a Youth & Family Fishing Clinic immediately after the first day’s weigh-in. The first 50 youths will receive rods and reel combos, and one lucky family will win a Zippo Outdoor Family Camping Package valued at $100.
