Sanger and Zimmerman capture Mille Lacs NTC
Under beautiful blue skies, Travis Sanger and his partner Terry Zimmerman were named this years champions of the Cabela's NTC. Though leading the tournament after the first two days, they knew that it was going to be tough to stay in first. With the fantastic fishery that Mille Lacs is, all the teams knew that if they managed to catch one "over" today, they could be in position to win. As it turned out, no teams brought an "over" to the stage.
The win not only provided a nice check for the team but also a couple nice bonuses. The winners of the event win a brand new Ranger boat powered by an Evinrude motor. The highest finishing Ranger Cup team also wins a Ranger/Evinrude combo. This also happened to be Sanger and Zimmerman.
Sanger and Zimmerman added 6.44 pounds to their 2 day total of 19.69 pounds. This was good enough to win by almost a pound. Steve Slabe and Lance Busse, in fourth starting the day, brought in the heaviest basket of the day of 7.16 pounds and finished in second placewith a three day total of 25.21 pounds.
Third place went to Jake and Gene Brueggemann with a three day total weight of 24.52 pounds.
Finishing fourth were yesterday's MWC winners Doug Yohe and Charlie Brant with 23.29 pounds
In fifth was the team of Neil Hammargren and Doug Newhoff with 23.08 pounds

Team after team commented on how amazing, and frustrating, Mille Lacs is. They also mentioned many times how the entire community welcomed them and made them feel comfortable.
This and all tournaments could not run as smoothly as they do without the help of the community and volunteers.
There was a huge presence at this event by The Outdoor Adventure Foundation. The Outdoor Adventure Foundation provides hunting and fishing adventures for children under the age of 18 and young adults under the age of 25 with cancer or other life threatening illness. They also provide hunting and fishing adventures for disabled veterans under the age of 40 that are wheelchair bound caused by injury during active service or who have lost a limb during active service.
Thank you to all who made this wonderful tournament possible.
