What a difference a day makes. This morning, the FLW anglers were greeted with light winds and a fairly flat lake. Spirits were high as the boats blasted off onto the waters of Lake Erie. All the boats cleared inspection before 7:00 this morning. After a short prayer and the National Anthem, the starter boat led the first flight to the mouth of the river.
Day one leader Rich Zachowski plans on making no changes today. With only a 1.5 pound lead, he knows he has to have another heavy limit today to stay in the lead. As they passed the check in point this morning, more than a couple of teams made the comment that "today is my day". Everyone knows that one great day can move them into a check cashing position.
Yesterday, the fish catching tactics were fairly common. Harnesses, stickbaits, and spoons all caught numbers of nice fish. The key was finding active fish in water that was slightly stained. Water that was "green" versus water that was "brown" seemed to put more large fish in the boat. Will the anglers find that water in their hot spots?
We'll have to wait and see.
Weigh in today is again at the Waterworks Park beginning at 3:00.
