Winnebago MWC Day 1pm

What a day. With temperatures nearing 90 degrees and the sun beating down, the anglers got tough and proved that Lake Winnebago is indeed a fantastic fishery. Only 3 of the top 100 teams failed to bring a five fish limit to the scales.

DSC_5821 (Copy).jpgA good number of teams weighed in early. There were a couple of reasons for this. One, when a team had six fish in the livewell, they had to stop fishing. Many teams made the decision to keep their first five legal fish. The second reason teams weighed in early was the heat and high water temps. Even the best livewells have a hard time keeping fish alive in such warm water. To help keep the fish alive, the MC Dan Palmer spent very little time with the teams on stage. His normal banter was kept very short in order to expedite the release of the fish.

In first place after day one is the team of Derek Navis and Korey Spengel with 22.11 pounds. In second with 21.08 pounds is the team of Bill VanOrnum and Travis Wagner. In third are Randy Harwood and Brad Skupas with 20.97 pounds.for a complete list of results, go to LiveLeaderBoard.com

Following the weigh in the pros put on a kids clinic. A lot of young fishermen and ladies showed up with their parents and all received a free rod/reel combo donated by the NPAA. As always, pro Johnnie Candle and other pros did a great job.

Tomorrow morning the boats will again take off at 7:00am and begin the official weigh in at 3:00pm. All activities take place at Menominee Park.
